I went to turn off my truck&it wouldnt shut off.I stoppped the engine by covering the choke with my hand.Do I have a bad switch?I have a 58GMC 270engine 6cyl key start.Or do I have a loose wire ??

Hy dtwbcs, Happy Boxing Day, without touching the ignition switch, put your meter between ground and the coil power input terminal and see if you still have a circuit. Most likely your switch has decided to retire, if you had a loose wire it probably would have quit when you didn't want it to, hope that helps.

If you have 12v., and if you have an alterntor, and if the new switch does not do the trick, e-mail me, because I think I know what the problem is.

Don't know if you have an alternator and electronic ignition. A friend of mine had this problem, seems the alternator provides the power to keep it running. He had to install a diode to keep the alternator from feeding back to the ignition system.
