Jerry,
I'm convinced you're physically attached to your keyboard - you always respond in an instant!!!
The truck is a friend's 1939 (!) (firetruck). The engine is a drop-in replacement for the original 216 or 235, so no help there.
The reason this is all coming up, is that the waterpump, which is bad, apparently had to be shortened to fit behind the radiator, due to necessary modifications to fit the newer engine. Thinking the engine was a later 235, I purchased a shortened pump, with a narrow pulley (again, truck is not mine, and I couldn't look at it before I ordered the pump).
Not only did the pulley not match (the original has a wide belt, not narrow), apparently the bottom two mounting holes didn't match up. I've got two 235s to eyeball, but I wouldn't know a 261 if it landed on me.
So there's the whole sad saga. I'm trying to figure out which $%&!ing water pump to buy to fix it, whether I need to get it shortened or not.
There are some days when, thanks to these old trucks, I really enjoy my modern, foreign car.
O.K. . . . not that many, really.
