same '47-'67 ... you'll need an aftrmarket engine mount crossmember and a fan shroud, otherwise it's a pretty straightforward swap

The original 4-speeds are known as the "SM420" with a Granny Gear first gear and 1:1 4th gear ratio, they are almost bullet proof. The Small Block Chevy (SBC) V8 engine was optional in 1955, so your 305 SBC will bolt in. It won't give you any real speed inprovement (3000 RPM is still 3000 RPM regardless of what engine is turning it), but will give you more power. You will also need a deep fan shroud.

I have a 1956 8400 that started life with the 265 V8 and now has a 350 SBC V8.

I'm actually looking at doing the same thing with my '69 C50, only a '69 307 instead of a 350. It has an oil bath 350 right now, but it's VERY tired and the 307 doesn't have 2k miles on the rebuild w/327 heads and a 4bbl. I'm hoping that it'll bolt up to the SM420 that's in it currently.

thats what I am doing in my 55 1.5T berad truck.. originally had a 261 and the same 4 speed as mentioned above.. you need the 55-64 bell housing as they went to a bigger bearing retainer in 65. the flywheel wont work.. need one of them too.. also you can run your original friction disc. but depending on which flywheel you may need to get a different preassure plate. the fork should swap over as well..

Huh?
