I've managed to get the engine running, actually quite smoothly on full choke. My problem is when I step on the gas she hesitates, like it's choking it's self out. And when it warms up and I cut the choke it'll idle nich at reg speed for about a minute, then starts to idle down and back up a bit, then hesitates, and then dies. I've tried to adjust the carb but I still can't get it. any suggestions? It's a 235 with the stock 1BBL Rochester. Does anyone think I need to have the carb rebuilt? -Danny

Also: Rochsters from that era have a reputation for warping problems on the bowl cover thing. that may be something to check, too.

#70422 12/22/2006 8:41 AM | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 | It should not run smoothly on full choke. You either have a vacuum leak or a problem with the carb, or the ignition timing (check the point gap) is way off.
A properly running 235 should start easily with slight choke and bog down quickly with full choke. Once it starts and runs for 30 or so seconds it should be able to idle with no choke at all.
