I'm trying to figure out what my 350 engine and tranny are. I searched for numbers everywhere but found nothing except a four digit? number on the engine oil pan. The whole top part of engine is new edelbrock but the bottom part looks old.
It's not the origional tranny but it looks old also. Between the engine and tranny there is an exposed flywheel? and something that looks like a torque converter. Any info on how to find out what they are from, year etc. is appreciated.

Redtruck - Can you provide some picures? That might help out with anwering your question. There's not really enough info in your posts to even give you a guess. Also, a really thorough cleaning of the engine might expose a number that can be decipehered by the experts here.

GM transmissions all have unique pan configurations so you can identify that component rather easily. The engine will have a number on the upper left flange of the bell housing that will ID the engine in a general sense. The right front side (passenger) of the engine block just behind the altenator will have a small rectangular land area on which should be stamped a series of characters/numbers. If the block has not been decked in the past these should still be there but may be under a layer of crud. If you find those characters there are several sites that define what these engine codes/suffices designate.

use www.Mortech.com to decipher the casting numbers.

If original your engine is more likely a 283 or perhaps a 327 as 350's came along in 67 or 68'.

The 350 was available starting in '68 according to my neighbor, who was a line mechanic for the Chevy dealer back then.

Thanks guys, my search had to go on hold for a while but I got some info from the internet.
I have: 350 turbo tranny 1969--1981 3 speed automatic W/ tork converter ---the oil pan has one corner at rear "cut off" Info said it was right side but my notes say it's on the left (driver's side). Anyway one cross member was cut off and one moved so this tranny could be put in.
Info stated that there was also a TH350-C made that had an elec. plug on left side for lock-up converter. Shouldnt there be an elec wire going from that plug, but where to?? Also there was mention of a modulator on right side-what does that do? There is a part on right side with a cap set up that looks like the old master cyl. top.
Engine is a 350 from between 1968 and ??? with new edelbrock carb.,headers etc.
I've tried everything I know to get rid of a back fire (popping) problem at 45 or 50mph or when I excelerate. Set timing at 10, 8, 4, and 13 degrees btdc. now it's back where it was at 12 degrees
put in a higher octane gas. Took off distributor cap - could not move the diaphram arm. Might not be doing it right.
Dont know how to put pictures on here yet. Appreciate any info.
