For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2007 Posts: 7 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Nov 2007 Posts: 7 | I'm struggling to understand what engine mounts I should buy to use with a Mustang II IFS when installing a small block chevy in my '56. I know this combination has been done many times, many ways. What have others done for engine mounts?
Thanks in advance for the advice. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Since the 56 was already set up for a V8 I'm not sure why its a problem...but I've never owned a 56 so I wouldn't know. I have put a V8 in my 52 panel and the motor mounts that fit in the chassis rails are neat. I do think they make them for the 56 as well but not sure. Here you can see how mine mounted. They come with instrutions and I bolted them on instead of welding. Don't know if these pics will help or not but take a look. http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r19/LutherParris/52Panel/100_0424.jpghttp://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r19/LutherParris/52Panel/100_0430.jpghttp://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r19/LutherParris/52Panel/100_0428.jpgI got these from JimCarter but they actually come from CPP Correction: They came from Chassis Engineering, sorry for any confusion.Note? if you put the stangII frontend under it I suppose you have a crossmember welded in???? If you do you will probably need to set the engine in the compartment and then weld some bought or home made brackets/mounts to the crossmember then bolt the engine to them. To determine best approach we need to know a little more about what you have done.

I haven't yet installed the cross member, so I'm not even sure exactly where it will be in relationship to the engine mounts. I'm wondering if I will have room for mounts that weld to the frame, or if they will need to weld to the cross member, or will I need to put in a tubular member for engine mounts like when a V8 is swapped in with the original suspension.
Ideally, I would like to go with something like achipmunk showed that has some shock absorbing capability.
Also, I'm thinking the original front cross member is going to need to come out, but not 100% positive.
I'm interested in feedback from others that have done this swap, and any pictures that they have.
Thanks in advance. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Its been a while cide1 but some trucks like yours had a V8 in them from the factory. The mounts on them were on the front of the engine and bolted to the front frame crossmembers. *** I am NOT positive on this but depending on the engine you can put the same mounts on a lot of V8's and make it work.
CLETIS....where are you? this is right up your alley!! | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | Not with a frame swap. I have no idea what a MII suspension even looks like. The 350 in my '56 has some home made mounts. | | | | | Joined: May 2004 Posts: 1,312 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2004 Posts: 1,312 | Try a google on " Transdapt ". They make mounts for motor / trans swaps on a lot of vehicles. | | |
