I am adding a IFS with a 350/350 combo and was just wondering what rearend I should be looking for. I will keep it close to stock height and was looking at going 5 lug as the IFS will be 5 lug too. Any help appeciated. | | | | Joined: May 2004 Posts: 1,312 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: May 2004 Posts: 1,312 | I have a rebuilt '55 Chevy car in mine. | | | | Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 129 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 129 | I am using a 2002 4wd Blazer rearend in my '39. Same width as stock and has 5 lug Chevy pattern that matches front disc brake conversion. Plus it is a disc brake rear. | | | | Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 252 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 252 | Mine came out of a 75 Nova 10 bolt 8.5 gear. | | | | Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 11 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 11 | 69 Camaro fits pretty good.Even the spring pads line up on the same center line witout any mods. | | | | Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 232 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 232 | early 70's cougar 9" under my '39. | | | | Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 153 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 153 | I used a 1979 Camaro rear end. I got the Z-28 so it was a 3.42:1
Don't use Camaro leaf springs. I used S-10 leaf springs.
But I have to add that my truck is not roadworthy yet and the bed is not on. 1946 Chevy Half Ton ('56 235, '86 T5, '79 Camaro Z28 rear end, working on the '85 Jaguar XJ6 IFS) 1976 Margay Panther X, MC91B | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 4,886 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 4,886 | My '37 has a 1979 Trans Am 10 bolt, it had the 3.42 gear but I swapped it out for a 3.08. Width was the same as the '55 axle that was under it, no idea about original axle widths. I swapped the spring pads from the '55 axle since I wanted to use the original 1.75" wide springs.
