For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 105 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 105 | These old trucks ran a tire size, I think was a 7.10 something? Can you mount a tire of a newer size ratio? Not the right size but just as an example like 265/70/r15. Or will this be a problem. Asking before I'm wrong as usual haha? | | | | | Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 19 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 19 | Yes, you can run just about any size tire. But what year truck you talking about? I owned a 55,59,and now a 61. I'm running 235/75/15 now. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 1,644 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 1,644 | On my 52-3100 I have 215/75/16s on stock rims.

New tires like wider rims and when mounted on skinny rims tend to rub against tie rod ends and other stuff inside the wheel well. 215 or 205's can be a good choice. If you have 16" rims there are 7.00's for sale out there. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 105 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 105 | Its a 1952 chevy 3600. thanks guys | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | Which wheels do you have? According to the manual, they should be either 15" or 17" 2 peice wheels. Either way, modern tires will not work very well with them. I would suggest swapping out to a 16x7 modern single peice wheel with a 3.5" backspace, and use a 235/85/16 tire. That will be very close to the OE size in diameter and load rating.

what is the OE size diameter for a AD 3100 truck? I tried looking it up with the search feature and shop manual and could not find it.

DADS50 I looked in my TRUCK DATA BOOK FOR SALESMEN .Tire sizes could be 6.70-15,6-ply , 6.50-16,6-ply ,6.00-16,6-ply and 15"6-ply .There was no info on the tire diameter .That will vary by manufacture from what I have seen. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 | Thanks for the info.
I didnt have my original wheels. I bought some new 15x6 wheels. and was trying to maintain correct tire diameter. I went with 235/75r/15. Put me at about 30". this was on a 50 3100

The tires are 7.0x17.5 and it seems impossible to find this size tire anymore. I wanted to change the wheels to 17" or even 16" to allow use of standard tires (is this okay?) but I can't find wheels to fit the hub piloted design. I finally found an 8 lug x 6 1/2 wheel with a hub opening that is about a little too big. My worry is the vibration of using only the lugs to center the wheel while there is about 3/8" play aoring the hub may not be the best idea. Where can I find modern sized wheels that fit this older truck hub dimensions? My Chevy dealer isn't helpful and steered me toward specialty wheel shops, but none I visit so far even show the dimension for the hub opening, much less can match it accurately. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 | | | |
