I installed disc. Brakes on my “54” with a new master cylinder and booster from CPP and now I am having trouble getting a good peddle. I bench bled the master cylinder and have used both a hand pump and manual bleeding to get the air out but just cannot seem to get a solid peddle. I have read in some post about “valves” in the lines to keep the fluid from going back to the master cylinder since it is below the level of the calipers I know this is a common swap with the master cylinder/booster so can someone tell me what else to check, what have others done if they had this problem?
Thanks

Are these valves put on each wheel or inline somewhere?

They are put on each line out of the master cylinder. one for the front and one valve for the rear brakes.

I was told by CPP that the proportioning valve should take care of bleed back into the master cylinder that I probaly need to bench bleed my master cylinder again? Is anyone running the residual valves and proportioning valve together?
Thanks

You can run both as they provide different functions.
The residual valves you already know about, whereas the proportioning valve provides balance between the front and rear circuits.
Due to the lighter rear end on most pick-ups when empty it's much easier to lock up the brakes in an emergency stop.
The proportioning valve (usually) reduces the pressure to the rears to prevent this.
There are adjustable ones available to allow you to tune your system to your personal needs.

I run both, no problems with soft pedal. I did need to bench bleed the master cylinder a second time.

It should be piped in line like in this pic from jockbolters web site
jocks pic

here is the adapter
link

The link is just for reference, youll have to determine the size you need

You should be able to get the fittings from your local auto parts. I got all my brake line fitting from my local Carquest

Good Luck
