Ok, I finally took off the bottom panel of the bellhousing and unbolted the tranny. Now I'm trying to pull the bellhousing and I'm having trouble with that... I know there are 2 bolts are the top of it (which I have pulled), but there are 2 bolts underneith the bellhousing that I can't get too... I can't get in there to get any leverage at all... any ideas???

Nope, those are still on... only thing that's off is the tranny.

Blake,

I'm not sure on this, but I think you are going to have to / want to pull the clutch, pressure plate AND flywheel.

If the engine is still in the truck, and it has rear motor mounts on the bellhousing, decide how you are going to keep it up, so to speak! A block of wood and a hydraulic jack under the pan hasn't killed too many folks. eek

Edit. Research indicates this engine is on a pallet on the garage floor grin

Last one I pulled, once I got the bolts out I had to apply a little cautious hammerwork to it to jar it off the dowels.

I've beat it to death with a hammer hah... Speed, when you removed it, you unbolted the 2 bolts on the outside and then the 2 under the bellhousing (the ones that are hard to get to)? And then you just hit it and it came lose? I need to get it off so I can take off the clutch, flywheel, etc... There is no way I can take that stuff off without first taking off the bellhousing.. pain in the butt! smile

There are two pins that are right above the lower bolts. I had the same problem. you can push the pins from the engine to the rear with a 1/4 extension and a hammer

I'm not sure you understood what has to be done. You do not have to remove the bellhousing in order to remove the clutch and flywheel; as a matter of fact, you MUST remove the clutch and flywheel before you can remove the bellhousing.

You unbolt the pressure plate one bolt at a time and turn the flywheel until you can get at the next one. When the pressure plate is off, you should be able to remove the flywheel bolts from the rear. But as I said, you don't need to remove the flywheel to change the clutch; inspect it visually with the pressure plate off. You shouldn't need a hammer to remove the bellhousing if you decide to do so, but I believe you will find at least four bolts behind the flywheel rather than just two.

I started turning the flywheel yesterday to take those small bolts off that goes all the way around it, but it wouldn't turn at all... feels like its really stuck.. I'll try it again today.. OH, on a side note, when I paint the engine that light color gray paint, is the bellhousing and tranny the same color gray?

You will probably need to soak all the cylinders with penetrating oil and may have to remove the valve train to get the engine to turn. Do a search on "stuck engine" or something similar for more info.

The correct color is a very dark gray for the engine and bellhousing, transmission is unpainted.
