I found a 235 but not sure what it from

block casting #3837004
I know its a 1955 to 1957 but what engine??

Your missing a couple of numbers Dave. Better do a little more cleaning and check that again. The nunbers are the sequence number, the first letter 'F' is code for Flint then there should be two more numbers for the year and a suffex code for the application.
And of course you've already found the casting chart. So the specific year it was assembled should be stamped with the serial number.

Dave, You can narrow down, your 1955 to 1957 block,
to a month, day, and year.

The block "date code" casting is near the 3837004.
Something like... C 7 56.

Powerglide would also indicate hydraulic lifters.
55.2 - 57 trucks had 3837004 casting but with solid lifters.
