I just bought a 1951 chevy 4400 dually stakebed and need insurance. The ones I called on will insure it but not for getting hay. Any ideas on who will insure me for using my truck as a truck and not just for shows.

Talk to your current carrier about just adding a vehicle to your policy. USAA insures all my vehicles, you just have to call them if you have one which doesn't have the modern VIN number. The computer crowd can't comprehend a six or seven digit VIN.

I've insured my pickup with American Family Insurance. They will insure a vintage vehicle for a stated value as long as an appraisal is provided and also another primary vehicle is owned. It can be used at any time this way. Have never had to file a claim so I don't know that part might turn out.

I've heard a number of antique truck guys use Gulfway and they are supposedly easy to work with and let you use the truck some.
I have not used them, nor do I know much about them.
They run an ad in the ATHS Wheels Of Time magazine.

Thanks Guys I got Progressive for now, will look into others too.

I have my '72 9500 insured with Gulfway. They *are* easy to work with, very reasonable and offer good coverage.

it took me over 2 years to find a company, them, to insure my 57 for an agreed value, (20k), and not have the truck in a garage. no mileage restrictions either, and i can drive it any day of the week.
all that for just over $400.00 a year.
my buddy has his 1960 edsel insured with them for 15k and he pays something like 300 +.

I added my 1954 GMC to my other auto policy with AAA, they also insure my Harley Davidson Motorcycle. They probably wouldn't insure either the truck or Motorcycle if I hadn't been with them 36 years.

You might want to give your Farm Bureau a call. They have hands down the best rates for big trucks here in SC. You don't have to be a farmer to use their insurance, but they understand "farm use" vehicles better than anyone else. I have my '52 COE (19500 GVW)with SC Farm Bureau and it's less than $400 per year.

Who insures your daily driver?

Heed FGT's (Vern's) advice. Contact whatever company insures you other "regular" vehicles. Insurance companies seem to now understand that you can only drive one vehicle at a time and that antique vehicles are driven quite carefully.
