will i need the computer cable to hook up this trans in my 51 1/2 ton? i will be hooking it up to 2002 5.7 without fuel injection?

I don't think you need the entire computer hook-up for the 700r4. You will need the TV cable to keep it from blowing up, and there are lock-up controllers you can buy to get lock-up in cruise.

i bought a 700r4 out of a 1993 vendura van i helped pull it but we both noticed that it did not have a tv cable meaning it did not come with one. is this correct or should it have one no matter the year?

come to find out my trans is a 4L60e and did not come with a tv cable is there any way i can hook this trans up in my 51 3100 without a computer for the trans by energizing the wires from anouther source.please help.

there might be a kit available to drop the "E" part - also to change the electronic speedo setup to mechanical, I'm faced with that to use a 4L80E behind a carburated 454 - see here

Go over to the inliners.org web site and talk with a guy who uses the handle "efi-diy". He built a manual controller for the 4L60E that he used while developing his 51 GMC turbo 4200 installation.

I have a '92 700r4 with a new '85 350. The transmission shop hooked up the tv cable. I think you will want the tv cable. Why not?

I'm pretty sure you need the "TV Cable" otherwise you might burn the tranny up fairly quickly.

Are the v6 and v8 700r4 the same or are they different found one with 96kon it for $150 he said it came off a 2.8??

I believe the bolt pattern on a 2.8 v6 is different from the standard Chevy pattern. The 4.3 v6 is the standard chevy pattern.

The TV cable is the most important part of a 700r4 transmission, if it is not connected or connected properly, the transmission will not operate correctly and will burn up.
The cable is connected to a little valve called the Throttle valve. This valve controlls the entire behavior of these transmissions.
All the computer does is sends power to the converter clutch solenoid which puts the converter in lockup mode when the transmission shifts into overdrive. The lockup shuts off when the transmission shifts back into 3rd or when you step on the brake pedal & is controlled by the brake light switch.
Check out Bowtie overdrives, http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/index.shtml They build 700r4's and sell the kits to properly adapt a tv cable to just about any carb or fuel injection.
They also sell a kit to controll the lockup converter without the use of a computer.
