I have a 3100 1950 Chevy Pickup. I bought the new glass for the windshield, rubber seal (including channel for garnish molding) and the garnish, I actually found it at a junkyard off a 47 flatbed.

How in God's creation are you suppose to be able to get this stuff in? I may have dinged it up too badly at this point. I have tried just about everything.

on a bench
install glass in gasket

Install trim


Install rope in gasket
then install on truck

Deluxe Windshield Trim for 47-53 two piece windshield question.
I installed my windshield with new cut glass but with on original (in really good shape rubber) didn't realize it was for the deluxe windshields with Trim. I didn't even want the deluxe look, but anyway my question is. Will it "leak" if I don't keep the trim in there, it seems as if I need something in the groove to help keep the rubber tight to the cab. I thought of using lockbead, but the kind for these trucks is a little too thick to use in the groove. I did order stainless trim and yeah definitely have to take the windshield back out to install that, I don't want to do that at this point, so I am looking for another option. If this windshield comes out, I am using the standard cab rubber and going to use this deluxe stuff in another project. any help would be great and also should I run a sealer as well? I am thinking I should

I used new rubber and didn't put the stainless in, also didn't use any sealer. So far no leaks, and I have driven in some fairly moderate rainfall. You may need some sealer with used rubber, but I would try for the best fit without any.

Cool good to hear, so your "new" rubber is actually the deluxe cab rubber? has the groove in the center of it all the way around right. That is good news, cause I don't want the trim on mine.

Yes, Yes, actually forgot to put the stainless in and decided I liked the look better without it.

The front windshield 'deluxe' trims do not serve the same function as the rear cab seal locking strip.

The front trims are purely cosmetic and don't 'lock' the rubber in situ.

thanks guys, I mean I was just weary on it leaking because it seems like if there was something in the groove, it would make it tighter to the cab. It seems kind of loose without the trim, for obvious reasons, there is some space to fill. I think I might just poor some water on it and test it out. Put some sealer in there if need be and bite the 80 plus dollars I spent on my trim.

When I did mine with the deluxe trim, I got the impression that the gasket would not be stable without the trim. I say this because the metal takes up volume that would be filled with rubber in the standard gasket.

truckernix, yeah that is what I thought. It seems like the rubber should be tighter to the cab. I think I might just find some kind of rubber to fill it with similar to lockbead. I just don't want to run the trim even though I paid 80plus for it. I guess, I will have to wait and see when some water gets on it. I been having other problems I got to deal with first.
