Hello,

My brother has a motor with block number 3701887 and the number LAQ3I0883 on a small plate above the starter. Is this engine a 216 or 235? Please Help! Thanks!

3701887 = 1953 235

LAQ3I0883
LAQ = 1953 235 with Powerglide (passenger)

Tim,

What source did you use to get the info? My brother says its a 216... so I need to confirm the sources where the info is coming from.

Thanks.

Sorry, Sergio,

The information came from the 1953 Specification booklet posted on Keith Hardy's website.

LAQ shows it came with option 313
L = 1953
A = passenger
Q = RPO-313

RPO 313 is a Powerglide transmission.

All cars that came with a Powerglide transmission came with a 235 engine.

That would be the first high-pressure 235 (a high-pressure 235 was not available in trucks until 1954).

I think that's a cylinder head number, not a block number. And that cylinder head number goes to a '53 235. Or so I'm told.
