| | | | Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 50 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 50 | Just took the carb off my truck to rebuild it.Its a 58 GMC with a 270,it has a Zenith carb.Where are you guys getting your kits at?I found a few online but didnt know if one or the other was better quality.Ive rebuilt a few carbs in the past,mostly 70s era Autolites.Anything inside of the Zenith gonna suprise me or is it pretty simple?Thanks in advance for the help.

One thing that will surprise you is the aluminum cup on the pump. The kit comes with a rubber one. I have a question about that also.The hole that the rubber goes into has a cap that the old rod hooked into.Do I need to take that out of the bowl assembly or put the new rubber type pump over that cap?The cap seems to be in there pretty good .Another question.The original throttle body gasket is very thick and the new one is thin.The old gasket has a metal grommet that helped space the carb sections apart,the new gasket doesnt and there is a brass pin that goes between the throttle body and the bowl assembly and with the thinner gasket they dont quit go together all the way.Thanks again for all the help and fast replies.The experience and knowledge you guys share is invaluable. That is the old, stuck pump piston. It must come out.
edit: If you have the aluminum piston out, There is a valve in the bottom of the hole. It should not be removed.
