For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 9 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 9 | I just got my truck home today and am trying to figure out what I have. What I do know is that it is a 1936 tall cab. There are a couple of serial numbers - the one on the firewall is 21 FB11 188. The engine block number is K5741524. The valve cover is held down by 2 bolts and it appears that there are three vents. Does it have the original motor? Do any of these numbers contain the paint code - if so, what is the color? Most of the truck looks to be there - can't wait to get started. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 9 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 9 | Thank you. It looks like the motor is original to the truck . The block casting number is 836010-10 . Does any one know what size engine this might be? Should I try and get the motor running first or just start rebuilding it? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,210 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,210 | Depends on what it looks like. If its all together and greasy and turns over, then check the oil and try to start it with fresh gas from a jug. If its dry and rusty, a rebuild will be in order. Up grading to a 235 will be a good move and should not be to difficult. The older engine will be expensive to rebuild, even more so then the 235 since it has babbit bearings. You can build a quality small block for what a six is going to cost! Even if it runs, you are going to have to pull the pan off and clean out the crud, since it has no filter, all the years of dirt is going to be in the pan.

If you intend to drive very much you will probably be happier with a later 235 C I (1955 or newer). Good luck. Glenn | | |
