I was wondering if anyone could help me concerning the wiring going to the starter on a 55 2nd series with the original 235 motor and 3 speed tranny. The starter is the original starter set up with the foot stomp button. I have been using the factory assembly manual to do most of the wiring but it is not to clear when it comes to wiring the starter. I have the battery and amp guage wire attached to the top of the starter switch. But I can not figure out where the wire goes that comes off the side of the starter switch. From what I can figure this wire goes to the resistor and drops the voltage when the engine is running. Does anyone happen to know how the starter is wired up ? A picture would really help, thanks

that wire goes to the the ignition switch - follow colors - it actually increases the coil voltage, when starting, as it bypasses the resistor which normally gets voltage from the ign sw when running

Hy guys, my assembly manual shows a dark green wire going from the small terminal on the starter foot switch directly to the coil positive terminal. The drawing is in section 12 sheet 5. squeeze, I think that ignition switch picture is of a key start switch, hope that helps.

You are correct Bobb. Sixes and V8s were wired differently. A six cylinder switch does not have the start position.

6 cyl switch wiring - V8 switch wiring ... they both came off factory wiring diagrams, works on the trucks I've had

if the resistor bypass wire went directly from the starter to the coil the truck would fire whenever the foot stomp was depressed regardless if the key was on or off, pretty dicey situation .... with proper wiring the coil only gets power from the ign switch, either from the resistor or the starter

Thanks for all your help on the starter wiring. I have it wired up and working. The picture squeeze had helped a great deal.
