As I continue the restoration of my 64...
I am looking to replace the two bolts (per side) that attach the upper A-arms.
They go through the upper A-arm shaft assembly from the cross member and frame. They are hardened and splined as well.
They are listed as item #7 of page 76 in the LMC catalog.

My concern is that some things that I have received from LMC have not been what I expected.
Has anyone replaced these bolts? Where did you get yours? Were they what you expected.
I don't mind ordering from LMC, I just want to make sure that what I am ordering is what I want.

For $4 apiece you might as well take a look at them. You can always run down to ACE hardware and buy some Grade 8 bolts if you don't like them.

When using new bolts I would certainly get new lock washers and nuts and use Blue Loc Tight on the bolts also as extra assurance that will not back out on you. You can check out the Tractor/Equipment places for Grade 8 bolts that are not plated too.

Looks like the right part to me. I would advise against using hardware store bolts for this application. The "bolts" are actually more of a stud, and require the splined part to lock them into place. They are also 1/2"-20 fine thread. I agree with new nuts and lock washers, but do not put locktight on them, that's overkill, and might upset the alignment mechanic when he goes to set camber/caster.

have you tried Classic Parts? formerly Chevy Duty.

It is as LONGBOX55 says the are splined to lock them in place. As well I agree with the new nuts. However they are lock nuts so lock washers are not necessary.
As well I forgot to mention that they are black anodized. At least mine are.
With all of those points that is why I was wondering if anyone had ordered them from LMC. I just don't want to spend the money and then have to deal with eating the money or the return policy.
By the way, I cannot find them on any other suppliers site.

Flat out LMC has screwed up too many of my orders for me to ever recommend them again. Classic Parts does not list the bolts on their website, but they do list them and the shims in the printed catalog. I would give them a call and see if they actually do still carry them. Part number from the catalog is:

74-372 - Control arm shaft bolt upper
74-381 - Control arm shaft shim upper

If you know someone in the Kansas City area, have them go to LMC, ask for the hardware in question, take a photo with their phone, picture mail it to you to make sure they are what you are looking for...problem solved!

Well actually, I did call LMC. The folks on the phone can only tell me what they see on the screen, which is that they are splined. They cannot say that they are anodized. But at least I am that far ahead.
However they did say that they would put in a mock order so that they could be looked at and answer my questions before I order them.
If you knew me you would know that I tend to be a bit an#l, however I just want to do it right the first time. That is why I am trying to make sure I get what I want. Even for something as small as a bolt and nut.

I heard back from LMC. They identified their bolts as silver in color. I interpreted that to mean they were not cad plated. I did not want something that would likely rust. If I'm wrong I apologize in advance.
However like Bears63 says Classic Parts has the part just not readily viewable on line. Of course with the part number I was able to punch it in and then it shows on line. I ordered 4 of them tonight.
