I purchased a rebuilt distributor and have been trying to time the motor ever since without much success. She runs but it just isn't quite right. It surges under load and you can hear a couple slight backfires while driving. We located what we think is the timing mark on the flywheel, it appears to be and arrow, instead of a steel ball. Any suggestions would be appreciated! | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 | The steel ball should be there.Make sure you clean the flywheel beyond the "arrow" to see it. I think your timing is a little off.

It comes 5 deg before the triangle which is UDC or Upper dead Center. | | | | Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 111 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 111 | Where exactly are you viewing the flywheel to see a timing mark? | | | | Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 433 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 433 | bowtiefan #1 #2 It is located on the right side of your block just above where the starter is attached... Pic #1 shows the steel ball before it is on the needle, Pic # 2 shows the steel ball lined up with the needle...
