Hi All
I am new to this forum but have been working on my 1942 Chevy truck for the past couple of years.
I have replaced the old 216 mill with a "new" 1955 235 motor which I will hopefully get running in few weeks time, meanwhile I have the chance of another 1958 235 which although has been rebuilt has unfortunately suffered a bad crack in block. The good thing is I,d like to swap heads as the second 235 engines head has new valves and hardened valve seats, plus new cam shaft and crank plus standard pistons all good bits to have on the shelf.
Now the only thing I'm unsure of is that this second 235 has hydraulic lifters, so is it possible to swap them as my original 1955 235 has the non Hydraulic type?

The 1958 235 head will work fine on the 1955 235 block. Use the mechanical lifters, push rods, and rocker-arm assembly from the 1955 engine.

I wouldn't pass up a 235 head regardless.

I think you will find that the swap regardless of lifter type.

i believe the hydraulic lifters and solid lifters each have a different type of steel on cam..don't think your suppose to mix em...keep the lifters with the cam...someone with more knowledge on subject will be along soon.

It is my understanding that in 55' as before the full pressure 235's that were assembled w/ PG trannys were the only ones that had the oil galleys drilled for the hydraulic lifters. In 58' all engines were drilled for hydraulics. Therefore if your 55' had a standard tansmission as most did then you should continue the cam and lifters that it came with. I would point out however that in no circumstance should you put lifters from another engine with another cam. Lifters and cams should be replaced as a set.

Unfortunately I missed my chance to buy that one but will keep an eye out for another, I'll get my motor running first a see what it runs like.
This forum sure is a goldmine of information corncerning this engine type and I have been busy reading up on what probs I may encounter breathing some life into this good old motor.
