I searched and cannot find a thread devoted to locating the older nonexistant huck brand brake system. I was hoping with the help of others, when the time comes, some general direction into new or useable drums would be greatly helpful.

I bought a 1947 3 window and last weekend i took off the master cylinder to clean it ul and to free up the piston. After it was all apart i placed the cylinder in muratic acid to clean it up. Rinsed it off, dried it real good, sprayed it satin black, and reassembled it. After bench bleeding it it still works fine. Now i am going to start pulling the wheels and checking to see what needs replaced.

To be continued..........

I have Hucks on my 49 3/4T. I have been able to get new wheel cylinders from American Classic, and get the shoes relined at a brake shop.
I did modify the system to a dual master out of a 72 3/4T using a pre-made bracket kit.
The only parts hard to find are the drums themselves. Sometimes the show up at the parts houses, but not frequently. I think the 1/2T drums are easier to find.

Enjoy your truck!

Knowledge is a wonderful thing, but ignorance means you don't know you can't do something.

Chevs of the 40s has drums. Search the vendor catalogues. A lot of the stuff is available. I got my shoes from NAPA.

It's a small world, but I wouldn't want to paint it.

Agree with all that except for the front drums, they are next to impossable to find. I've found a half dozen used ones and they were all turned over size. The vendors seem to have found rears but nix on the fronts.
By the way, what's a 5/8 ton???? They would be kind of hard to find any parts for.

Your the 1st to ask me that, Denny. A 5/8 ton is what i am planning to make eventually because i am 6' 7" tall and trying to fit comfortably in an ad truck with stock seat and steering is next to impossible.
I was planning to take a 3/4 ton frame, which is 9 1/4" longer than a 1/2 ton, and stretch the cab 6" so i fit comfortably. Using a 1/2 ton bed, and modified 3/4 ton rear frame rails which would be shortened 3 1/4" and widened to accept the 1/2 ton bed mounts. My cab stretch will be in the door so i do not have the look of a stretched cab at first glance with an extra door or window behind the factory door like most stretched cabs i have seen. Aslo thought about making tje rear window larger so it would give a chop top look with longer door glass. Just an idea floating around in my head.

Thanks for all the time i will save when the time comes, and i know the time is coming.
Highflyer, even though my truck sits in the drive for now and all i can do is look at it as i come and go or work on it here and there, this project has made me so happy and excited i doubt i ever will stop enjoying it. This one is a keeper for sure no matter what it takes. I have always wanted a 1947.

If you are going that far with it why not change over to Bendix brakes. They work better & are much easier to work on.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

My 47 will stay a stock 47 with the exception of replacement of needed parts and bodywork and paint. My idea for the 5/8 ton is for another truck i have although i have not decided to use my 48 cab or my 53 cab. My 53 was a rolling project when i got it and the first ad truck i ever bought so i am attached to that one. I figure i have moved it atound enough over the years it would be great to drive one day. I know the 48 cab could bring in more cash than the 53 so i am looking at it that way. I plan to use the jag irs that seems always to me in my way here at my house amd for the front i want a dakota set up. On paper this truck sounds awsome but reality i cannot afford it yet. Maybe when i am an old man.

Look around here and in the gallery. I seem to remember another doing what you plan, and he posted good pictures of the project (may have been a 1/2T frame with a short box). It looked really good when done. Looking from a distance, it looked like the top was chopped because of the long doors. Maybe someone here can point you in his direction.

Yes i have spoke with him. I recall the pictures. Good work, but stretched too far for me.
I also thought of chopping down a 3/4 ton bed so it is portioned correctly. It bugs me when people go through so much work and it shows rather then not looking factory. I have also played with the idea of using the rear half of an ad panel and making a fleetside bed out of it.
