I know it belongs in the other side. Am hoping that some kind soul can walk me through the steps necessary to remove the lock. Truck was recently painted inside and out so I want to be careful not to scratch or damage the fresh paint.
Thanks!! | | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | a driver side lock was optional so unless you are trying to win the most points in an originality contest, "belonging" isn't really worth the trouble ... but if you really need to fiddle, the easiest way would be to remove the inner door panels, remove the 2 screws that hold each outer handle in [if they're not corroded tight], switch sides and re-install

My driver's side lock doesn't have a key so I bought a lock and key set and was planning to put the new lock in the passenger side door handle. Then I thought - why not put the blank button in the driver's side handle.....
I thought the pushbutton was somehow attached to a piece of linkage. Apparently, it just pushes on something to open the door.
Sounds easy to change.Screws shouldn't be rusty as it was only painted 18 months ago - without the door handles installed.

I had one key that opened either door and started the truck.
