hey ive got a 53 chevy 1/2 ton and 3 of the grill bars are real bent up, is their away i can just remove the dented up bars or do i have to remove the whole grill assembly? and if i do have to remove the grill do i have to take the fenders off too to do so?

You'll be better off removing the grille because the bars are riveted together. I think all you need to do is remove the lower splash pan for access.

I took my whole grill apart. I'm glad I did because the rivots were perty much on their last leg. There are over 100 of those rivots and most of the vendors offer kits to reassembly the grill back together with screws and nuts.

sounds like getting rid of those rivots are a good thing,where do i get a grille rebuild kit? Ive checked lmc. and how do you get the whole grill out? i've been looking over the grille but cant really find where it seperates.

Jim Carter Truck Parts sells the set for $16.00. http://www.oldchevytrucks.com/ It's been many years since I took my grill out. I believe, if I remember right, removing the fenders made it easier. Hopefully the tribal elders can chime in with a more detailed explanation for ya.

Took mine off 2 months or so ago. Take the hood latch panel off, the grill attaches to the fenders on either side, and along the bottom. can take the whole grill out fairly easily without removing the fenders.

It not hard at all.

Thanks for the reply, i figured out how to do it and its not hard at all. But i just got thrown a curve ball being that my trucks on a later frame so the frame rails are actually in the way of removing the grill from the bottom. i was thinking id just cut out the bent up parts and weld in new sections from my parts truck
