Hi I'm new to this forum I have a 52 AD five window with a 235 already installed. I want to give it a little more juice.
Can I bolt on two two barrel carbs without any other mods. I'm thinking about electronic ignition also. It already has been converted to 12 volt.
Any suggestions would be appreciated........

You can run twin carbs with no other mods as long as you mod the carbs to work together. The electronic ignition is a good idea.

This is a good time to consider manifold options. What are you doing for exhaust? And 4ontheFloor is right, HEI is the way to go. I just did it myself and am tickled pink by the improvement in idle, low end drivability, and throttle response.

I drove mine for a couple weeks with dual carbs and the stock exhaust. There was no performance improvement as it had nowhere to go. Dual exhaust should be used if you add carburation to take full advantage of it.

I did dual exhaust first, and I felt a nice improvement in get-up and go. Then came the O.D., radials, HEI. In that order, one at a time. Each step yielded big gains. It's a different truck now, and I have yet to install dual carbs but am going too. I will be using 2 NOS Rochester Bs -(against a lot of experienced advice telling me I shouldn't), and an Edelbrock 2X1 intake. And after that's done, I will be swapping the 235 block and head, with a built 261 block and head.

With all due respect to those who have praised EI, consider this one vote for points and condensor.

The cell phone was invented to call the tow truck when the EI failed!!! This, by the way, is the footsteps of experience!!!

I have two later vehicles which came equiped with EI that now are quite happy (and now quite reliable) with points and condensor.

Of course, you can also carry a couple of spare EI units with you.

Jon.

Good carburetion is fuelish hot air
The most expensive carburetor is the wrong one you attempt to modify.

My cousin had a set of Strombergs (2bls) on his 1955 1st series
235 & found out that it was way over "carburated" ! He switched
to 2 single carbs, easier to tune & a better idle. Had to redo the jets because of the altidude (5280')...Hope this helps !

Langdon reccomended a pair of Carter W-1's. These are small bore from the late 40's. I picked up a couple of rebuild kits from the Carb King. (He will take the time to make you feel confident) There are alot of small screws that required and impact driver. And not too many unknown pieces left over wink
One thing or two to consider is the mount flange for your carbs. If you have a 235 and opt for an Offenhauser dual, the flange mounts are for to the original Rockchester (large). But they will probably be too large a throat for your application and should consider carbs that went with a 216. You must have the flange holes on the manifold welded closed and then rebored and threaded to accept the closer spread of mounting holes for the smaller bore carbs. This will add about $100 bucks to your project to retool the manifold.
Then there is the the story of intake manifold meeting exhaust manifold. But that's another story. grin
