After converting my ’41 to 12 volts my 6V horn still works but sounds somewhat anemic. I’m looking for suggestions for a 12V horn that looks close to the stock 6V unit and can be mounted on the intake manifold.

I think your horn needs an adjustment. My six volt horn is really loud on 12 volts.

Ditto, a 6v horn on 12v should be a lot louder.

try filing the vibrator points......

I'm also interested to learn of an aftermarket 12v horn that looks and sounds like the original horn.

So, going back to the original question, does anyone have a recommendation for a source for original looking horns? I have no problem finding original sounding horns, but they don't look much like the broken original that I replaced with a cheap aftermarket.

if the new one was cheap it might be worth a try to take it apart and put the guts in the case of the old one - if it doesn't work you're not out much - find a working original

Good idea, putting new guts in old case. I'll try that sometime.

I bought a $15 horn at O'Reilly. Works great, sounds great. It doesn't look that out of place, either.

Put an ad in Truck Parts Wanted. You can get used horns that work for a reasonable price.

I will pull my horn apart and see what there is to adjust. Otherwise I'm still looking for a 12V unit that looks like this

You won't find a 12V like that on a Chevrolet.

For what it's worth, when I had my '46 (with a '41 cab, so whatever) rewired the guy that did the work suggested I install mid 70's Ford (ugh!) twin horns. They are LOUD and sound right. They look much like the ones in the link from TxLaTx above but I put them behind the grill instead of in the engine compartment. Besides, I've got a 350/350 and IFS/IRS so authenticity is no longer an issue.

I have adjusted mine and it is a little better. It's not so much the loudness but the sound it makes. It sounds more like ahhhhhhhhhhhh than toot. I tried the horn with my old 6V battery and the sound is about the same

The truck is mostly stock and I would like to keep the horn where it is bolted to the manifold.

Someone had put a "meep-meep" horn on my burb. I found a pair of 6V Olds horns at a swap meet. They sound off nicely on 12V.

I pulled a pair off a mid-70's/80's chevy truck at the salvage yard, mounted them under the "hood latch pan", and they sound like caddy horns. Don't forget to get about 8-10 feet of the wire with them.
