I am trying to get some of the odds and ends cleaned up so I can feel like I am having some kind of progress. My engine came in pieces so I grabbed the oil filter assy' out of the bed of the truck to clean it up and it looks like something I haven't seen before. It looks like it is cast aluminum and maybe goes bolted straight to the block I don't know I didn't get to see the engine in one piece. Which by the way is a 216. The block has already been vatted and tested so I cant even look for imprints. Can anyone shed any light on this. Thanks
Here are pics of it

That is called an In-liner filter, or something like that. It bolts on in place of the oil distributor cover. Instead of returning filtered oil to the pan, the filtered oil goes to the rocker arm supply.

Hey, truckernix:

This in-liner filter sounds like a good idea. The Blue Funk has the type you mentioned, where the filtered oil is returned to the pan.

I wonder if there is any such animal like this in-liner filter currently available?

For a 216 splash-oiler, quite a rare part. I've seen one in the past 15 years but I don't get around much.

I think there were far fewer of the in-liners than the other type. They are a little neater with no external lines.

That looks really nice. It will look even better in your engine bay!

A friend has one that he highly polished so it looked like a chrome finish. It's a cool looking filter that generates a lot of conversation. Nice job.
