For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2009 Posts: 35 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Dec 2009 Posts: 35 | I have a 327 that I rebuilt when I was in high school about 15 years ago. I took it out of a 66 3/4 ton two wheel drive and put it in a 65 3/4 ton four wheel drive. I have been restoring the truck and am putting a big block back in it. I have had people tell me to keep it not sell it. I am not sure what to do with it and was hoping someone might have a suggestion. I really do not have any idea what it would be worth, or if it would be anything someone would want and where to start. I guess I just need to find the right person in need. Thanks again | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | 327s weren't built on the 4 bolt main block, only the 302 ('68/'69 only), the 350, and early 400 were 4 bolt. There is 1 exeption, and that was a handfull of experimental test mule 327s, but they were never sold to the public. I do agree withthe others, don't throw that 327 away!

All 327's are 2 bolt main. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 474 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 474 | All factory 327 were 2 bolt mains .Only experimental engines and custom engines could be 4 bolt mains .Keep your engine if you think that you may use it . | | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 337 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 337 | I grew up in the time when the 327 was considered the ultimate small block, and great examples are still powering a lot of interesting vehicles. But most people I know that go big block never go back, and the spare 327 may end up just consuming valuable real estate under the bench.
If you have another project vehicle off in the future somewhere I'd keep the 327, otherwise I'd let it go and put the money into more improvements on the current installation. | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | seems to me that the '66 chevelle 365 h.p. was a 4 bolt main It was. But it was also a 396, not a 327. My Dad used to have one he bought new when he was still in the Navy.

With the right crankshaft and rods, the cubic inches came out right for the stock-class rules at a particular round track where we ran. The main advantage over the guys who ran the "cheater" 350's was a little more RPM capability with the shorter stroke. The hot setup at that track was the 302, however, at about 8,000 RPM on the high side of the track. Get it wound up, and more or less flatfoot the throttle all the way around! Jerry
