For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 35 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 35 | I have body work done and am thinking of using a newer 1 ton chevy frame. Brakes, steering, wheel/tire issues... Just think putting body on 1989 chassis makes sense. Anyone done this? | | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 | The '88 to '98 frames have kickups front and rear and the front is much wider than your '47.
I haven't done it, and I'm not saying it can't be done, but there would be easier frames to put your body on.

Anyone? Anyone? I don't want to get too old and lose the benefits of modern suspension, steering...any of the hot rod material work? Mustang II? Chevelle?? Well the original frame is a great choice, and in my case I think it's the best choice.
I have new springs, power steering, as well as disc brakes front and rear. And it all looks pretty much like it belongs, and the frame fits wonderfully under the body.
I've seen a number of AD trucks on non original frames, and I've yet to see one that looked right.

Looking at frames designed for your purpose would be the place to start. Then narrow the field based on track width and wheel base.
You may not find anything that really makes sense, or you may find a perfect match.
If you want modern suspension you either have to build suspension mounts or body mounts. I've got projects underway doing it both ways and have yet to be convinced one or the other is always the right answer.
