Blew them out with air. Shake the arms side to side to see how the bearings are. Two of mine had a little bit of shake, but when they are in the installed position, they don't leak and seem to work fine. The '41 book says to always install a new lead washer, couldn't find them so just tightened them up, no leaks. See my post on the link pins and bushings though.

I sandblasted them then took them apart and cleaned the parts then cleaned the inside of the shock.Made a new gasket and filled them with oil and they work and no sign of leaks.Just have to paint them and put them back on.

I used shock oil that I bought from the filling station,but I think you can use brake fluid also.
