Reinstalled my transmission last night. Went to get the u-joint, bolts and cover that slides on the drive shaft and over the u-joint to seal it. When I got the cover, I noticed that the screw on ring seal that seals the cover to the drive shaft was missing. Now likely my 4yr old or 6 yr old was messing with it and lost it.

Question: What is the name of this screw on seal piece, and are you able to order it from somewhere?

Thanks for the help

Doing some searching, I believe the part is called a "Torque tube knurled nut", not sure though.

I think you are referring to the a part that looks like the dust cap at the right of the upper diagram on this page. (ignore the rest of that drawing - it is not showing the torque-tube bell/ball cover you are referring to)

Post a Parts Wanted Ad in the Swap meet. Maybe someone knows where the part can be purchased but I have not seen it sold as a reproduction part. I have seen/bought a reproduction ball/bell and it did not come with that dust seal (threaded collar "nut").

Or, try calling Jim Carter Antique Truck Parts (or, Bowtie Bits) - they might have a used part.

Can you post a photo of what ball/bell parts you have, so that we might be able to better respond about what you are missing?

tclederman,

Excellent! You know exactly what I am talking about. I will get a pick later tonight or tomorrow and post it and also do the swap meet thing. Thanks so much. Can't believe I lost the darn thing. Going to turn my garage upside down tomorrow.

You'll find it a few days after you buy a replacement.
