My dad and I were trying to time my 235, we noticed that the left rear exhaust was cooler than the right, after hooking up the timing light, noticed that we couldn't get it to operate on the #1 wire, and very intermittingly on the rest of the wires. It seemed to work on the coil wire to the distributor. Seems with that said, not all the cylinders are firing. Can anyone suggest what might be the problem? Spark plugs, wires, points or condenser. Would I be better off going to a HEI modified distributor? Any help or suggestion would be appreciated!!!!

That problem came up on this forum a week or 2 ago. His problem was number 1 spark plug was dirty. Check the point gap & dist cap & rotor. Look inside the cap real close for carbon tracts. You can check the wires with an ohmeter. Figure 10,000 ohms or less per foot. You can time the engine on #6 wire. It gives the exact same reading as #1. HEI is great but a conversion kit to electronic ignition is all you need.

I had the problem two weeks ago.My problem ended up being the number one spark plug was dead. The plug looked good, just would'nt carry a spark.I would check to see if you have spark on each wire, maybe you have some bad plugs as well.check the cap and rotor for defects .Check and see if your firing order is correct.I think i would check the points to see if they need replaced or regapped.might be time for a complete tune-up. cap, rotor, points & condenser, plugs, plug wires.

THANKS ALL, I kind of figured to replace all the sparks plugs and give it a complete tune up, I appreciate the advice.
