I tried to get her running after 6 years and no go. Good spark , timing is set ,gas from a funnel. It turns over but will not fire and I have read and printed all the posts from previous problems. It was so disapointing.I know it runs we had it running 6 years ago what am I missing? | | |

That is quite low I think. I would have thought more along the lines of 90 lbs.
The common feeling is that as long as the variation between cylinders is small, things should work OK.
The reading could change with a refinement in testing procedure, so don't condemn the truck to the scrap heap yet.
Did all the cylinders read that same approximate value. I think it should start. Do a detailed "re-check" and you might find something you missed. 60 lbs across the boards should not be the cause of the old beast's refusal to start.

Sounds like timing to me. Two ways to get lined up right: hand crank engine until the timing ball on flywheel lines up with pointer- you have a 50/50 chance of being at TDC on compression stroke, so line it up, then set up the distributor accordingly, and try to start it. If you're in the neighborhood, you should get at least some coughing, attempting to fire. If not, you're 180 degrees off. Otherwise, you can hold your thumb over #1 spark plug hole, crank the engine and wait for the compression stroke (you'll feel the blast on your thumb) while watching the rotor (w/ dist. cap off). Note the position of the rotor right after the compression blast- that's where you should set up #1 plug post on the distributor.
I learned all this from lots of trial and error and from these great stovebolt.com guys, so I hope I can pass it along to you. Good luck, you'll get her going! Don't let that weak compression discourage you. | | |

Turns out I had the plug wires all screwed up and when I followed Atomarcs advice I got them in the right order. She fires right up every time and sounds so good. I am a very happy man | | |
