I just bought a set of 5 original 16" wheels for my '57 Chevy. One of the rims has a few good size dents- the rest need to be cleaned up but look "ok" to my untrained eye. I found some previous threads on this topic, but still have a few questions:
1. obviously the one will have to be repaired, but should I check the balance on all these wheels, or have them all straightened and or "trued"? or can I just throw them on the truck?
2. the wheels are riveted, does this automatically exclude tubeless tires?
Lastly, I plan to have these wheels powdercoated- but I don't know the color the truck will eventually be so...
3.) Were all stock wheels painted to match the truck in '57? Is there a "default" stock wheel color?
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

I don't think that you will need to get the wheels balanced. I have never heard of that. As far as rivets go, all of my rims have rivets and I run tubeless tires.

Color - Had a similar question a couple months ago on my 37. While there was no final ruleing, consensus was that black was stock. Cleaning and blasting them pretty much confirmed that they started out black. I still powder coated them Brewster Green cause that's the body color

Rivets - just mounted 2 of the 5 using tubless and they've held 50# pressure for a week now. (they're 8ply) I pinged each rivet listening for anything sounding loose

Balancing will do little good if they arn't true. either get better wheels or spend the bucks to have them made right.

Brian- I love the looks of the wheels on that '37.
I'm not as enamored with the stock wheels for my '57, but it only cost me $100 for 5 of them, and I don't have another matching set. Also trying to stay original for now, but as Gazim says- maybe get better wheels? That in mind, I'm wondering if its worth the money to true and powder coat them.
Fred- I'm going to be reading through the electrical section on this forum, but look for some questions about these "ready made" wiring harnesses places are selling- I'll probably post next week.

Hi Traeger, are you going to be driving soon? If not driving while you are working on the truck, why not keep looking for the wheels you want instead of spending money on these?
