Hot Rod John did it on his stepside. Here's a link to his build thread:

HeavyChevys,

I updated - reorganized my build thread to include some text on how I did the fender swap.

Fire away with the questions there Chip, be glad to help!

The key to the entire deal is using the newer era step supports and bolting them to the older bed steps, then mounting the steps to the bed and using the steps as the fixture to locate the front of the fenders. From there on it is pretty much straight forward.

Sounds confusing but it isn't.

Did you get the older steps when you got the older fenders?

You gotta love the internet: A guy from New York gets a tip from a guy in Washington State about the way a guy in Colorado modified his truck. Freakin small world, eh?

So, I guess the bed fits the frame ok and stuff? So would the bed sides be simular enough one could get it to fit?

Michael,

In my case the previous owner installed the '67 era bed on my '65 so I can't say for certain if it was a no hassle installation. Based on what I have researched the 67-72' stepside bed is a direct bolt on replacement onto a 63-66 truck, just need to add a 1" thick spacer to raise the bed to the correct height. Check out this link, it tells the differences between bed models: http://www.mar-k.com/bed_side_interchange_gm.html
