As the title says, I am new here and new to chevy trucks.
I am trying to learn what I can, as my young daughter has decided that we should rebuild a truck together for her.
Well it was sort of my idea, but I thought she would want to rebuild my 66 mustang.
Boy am I surprised that she decided on a chevy truck, which is why I am here.
My daughter and I have just bought a 1964 K20 as I understand it to be.
The will need quite a bit of work but we are looking forward to it.
So hopefully I can learn allot here and help her to turn a out a nice truck.

Welcome to the bolt, there are a lot of knowledgable folks here and a wealth of information to be had just by doing a search. You can ask for help in the forum that applies to your project at the time.

Welcome. You would love to see pictures of your truck. Well, I mean your daughters truck. Good for her. Glad she likes old trucks. Good luck and lets see some before pix.

Truck looks to be in very good shape

The truck really isn't too bad.
The motor is in bad shape, it was left out in the phoenix area desert for multiple years with no valve covers. So its full of sand.
The wire harness was cut out almost entirely.
The interior was pretty much stripped out, the brakes were disconnected and drained of fluids but otherwise it only has a few rusted areas and one real dent.
Oh and someone welded a hugh tow bumper onto the rear of it that will have to be cut off.
We really feel like the hardest part will be learning what we need to do to it to make it drive and handle the way my daughter wants it to.
But with the help of the search function on this site I feel like I am getting close to knowing what can be done.

I guess maybe I have jumped the gun a bit on the rear end.

I assumed that the original gearing would make it tough for the truck to keep up at highway speeds around here.
The speed limit on the main road here is 65 and 70 is kinda what everyone drives at.
Will the original gearing be able to maintain 70?

As for the brakes and power steering, I could be comfortable with the brakes if they work well, but I think my daughter would have trouble parking it with power steering.

She will be a very small woman not likely to break five foot.
At the end of the day this will be her truck so I want it to be as comfortable as it can for her.
What do you guys think, have I over thought this?
