I would like to mount the stock style mirror. Can I drill the 3 holes and JB Weld nuts on the inside of the door for the bolts? Should work right?
Thanks!
Jon

You should be able to use regular nuts held from the inside with a wrench. I did that. with bigish washers of course.

On the chrome mirror brackets, as well as a lot of other items, beware of poor quality plating on a lot of the repops out there.

It's been suggested here before that if the threads or any other area begins to show rust, get it removed and brush with clear nail polish. Worth a try. The repops I used on the 59 rusted slightly but the big rust producer was the chrome tail light brackets I used. I was getting ready to toss them for the black painted before I sold the truck.

The 59 was always garaged and stayed dry except for washes and the occasional caught in the rain drive. Would be nice if they'd repop these in stainless.

It has a support bracket on the inside of the door with welded on nuts. There is nothing on the passenger side. Has anyone seen a source for these brackets? I imagine the sheet metal alone isn't strong enough for the stress of the mirror since they are reinforced on the drivers side. What do you think. My Burb is in amazing shape and I'd hate to ruin a perfectly good door by putting a crease in it around the mirror arm.
Thanks

I was afraid of that. I guess I'll have to learn how to fabricate parts.

That curve at the mirror location makes it pretty strong and that mirror don't weigh hardly anything. But, placeing a piece of sheet metal inside should be an easy task also. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2012 Posts: 506 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2012 Posts: 506 | How thick of a piece of sheet metal should I use? I was thinking I'd have to bend up a piece of 1/4" plate and get the holes drilled in the right alignment. Might be a lot easier than that.
Thanks
