I have decided to replace my original type rims and tires on my 54 3100 with the chrome smoothie type rims with tubelss radial tires. Want to improve the ride and handling. I want to know what width of 15" rims I should get. I don't want the tires to be too wide and possibly rub when turning. On the other hand, I think 5" wide is too narrow for ride and handling purposes, but I don't know. Finally, any recommendations on radial tire size to match the rims would be appreciated. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | I like 7 in. rims with 235x75 tires. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Finally, any recommendations on radial tire size to match the rims would be appreciated. Check the width of the LT radial tire that Cletis posted. That width of a 15" radial LT tire will have an original-looking profile and will provide excellent ride ad handling (noticeably better than the old bias-ply tires). Speed you money and time on making sure that all front-end, suspension, and steering parts are tight, properly adjusted and lubricated. I have LT 7.0 x 15" radial tires on original 1954 15" rims and they look original (high profile) and drive great. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 1,426 ODSS President | | ODSS President Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 1,426 | Here's mine on stock rims (see below), recently went over 50K miles daily driver only vehicle.
