I posted a question about burb interior in the interior forum but not many replies. Anybody recovered all their seats on a AD burb and care to share if they bought covers or had interior shop make their own. Trying to justify if it's easier/ less expensive to recover myself or have a shop do it???

I had recovered and rebuilt the two front seats, the middle seat and the sunvisors on my '58 burb through a custom interior shop. Superb job and very costly($2,500.00). Does this give you an idea?

Good luck!
Mark

Yes, thanks. It makes me want to try it myself. Covers are around $587 I think for all four seats.

If you get the correct supplies and make the padding the correct thickness an cut correctly. It is very easy to use a pre-made seat cover. once you have it in place you work from the middle of both sides and work out so that the seat is uniform. It is very easy to do. You will need hog rings with the correct tool for them.

If you have any detailed question feel free to give me a call and I will walk you threw the project.

What do you want to know about covering the seats yourself?

Have you ever covered seats yourself?

Do you have access to coir-like matting?

The JC covers should fit fine but your will need other items (like the items in JC's installation kit PLUS coir-like matting).

Denny Graham has posted a photolog of installing upholstery sets (maybe even from JC).

You could use hog rings or your could use the original-style u-clips (Jim Carter also sells the original-style u-clips).

I covered my 1954 Suburbans seats myself (JC's upholstery & installation kits & u-clips). I did not know about the necessity of the coir-like matting. I will be looking for a professional installer on the two 54/55 restorations that I am now working on (but, I would use JC upholstery if it was correct for 54-55 - it is not correct).

Never upholstered anything yet and no, I do not know where to get coir like matting. I haven't done a lot of research on this yet. What is coir like matting anyway? Is there pictures of that in Denny Grahams photolog? Thanks

Nice, Weeds. What is the name of the company? Believe it or not but it might be cheaper and easier for me to ship my seats to them than getting it done locally or even doing them myself.

Thanks,

Tim, The company is

Personal Touch Upholstery
1908 Shirland Avenue
South Beloit Illinois 61080
815-389-4676

I don't have a 3rd seat. He did the driver, front seat passenger and 2nd seat.
A word of warning, this guy is slow. I had to stay on him to get the seats done. Excellent job though.

I may have to look him up, that's only about an hour away from me. I may check with some local guys first but I don't think they'll be inexpensive.

Sorry about the JC abbreviation. The JC=Jim Carter meaning was deeply hidden in the thread for which I posted the link.
