Anyone have a box w/a mfgr. name and part# lying on the bench? thanks Jim | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | Seems to me a good parts man can look it up from the application. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing. 1972 Chevy c10 Cheyenne SuperIn the Gallery Forum | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 637 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 637 | They will have to look it up in a book, it will not be on the computer. | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,903 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,903 | I don't think the joints for the torque tube are available through the general after market. Restoration vendors have repops, but I think they are all made in China. I find NOS joints on eBay occasionally. I think I would prefer a good used over a Chinese repop. Is your joint broken? If not, it may still be good. I remember years ago a lot of good joints were replaced and the problem turned out to be the bushing in the torque tube. | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 55 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 55 | The yoke is OK, what I need is essentially a rebuild kit. I had the misfortune of having an aged member of the fair sex pull out of a parking lot whilst gabbing on a cell. I pumped for dear life and threw 2nd gear and tore the ears off one side of each of the bushings and reduced most of the attachments into metallic dust. I can hit the catalogs for aftermarket kits. but I'm getting tired of the mask and gun beating. The kids at the parts counters are just that, kids, I feel strongly that that parts can be had, I just need a starting point( traceable and cross-ref numbers) thanks jim | | | | Joined: Jul 2002 Posts: 177 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2002 Posts: 177 | Chevrolet's part number is ; 591642. | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | The yoke is OK, what I need is essentially a rebuild kit. . . . It looks like you are looking for the "cross assembly or cross piece"? Is this somewhat what you are looking for? If you are not interested in parts from a reproduction parts vendor (I do not blame you - the last poorly fitting set I got had been made in South America), maybe chevyb has what you need (send him a Private Message and find out). An email or PM to wdoftexas ( wd.foster@verizon.net) might also be worth a try. | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | or try Obsolete Chev parts in Georgia. He has some NOS stuff and may just have it. | | |
