I was going to swap a 250 chevy in place of my 216 engine in my 41 1/2 ton. My questions are. I want to put a 350/400 aotomatic behind the 250. Will any 350/400 tranny work? Will the regular 350 bellhousing work with the 6 cylinder starter? Will a 350 flex plate flywill work on the 250?Anyone know of a good newer type stearing box that I can swap into the pickup? thanks

I can only tell you what I know. I just installed a 250 in my 54 3100. The 250 came with a 200TH. All automatics bolt up to the block in the same way. The flexplate on mine has 153 tooth and measures 12 3/4". My block has bolt holes for two different starters. I beleive one for automatics and one for manuals. My engine came out of a 79 Nova. I'm going to put a 4spd behind mine. Can't help you out on the steering. Hope this helps. I

I found a 86 camaro with a 4 cylinder in it. Will the starter , flex plateor fly wheel, etc fit on my 250 ci chevy? thanks

Chev' never came out with a 86 Camero 4 cyl. They had some 4 cyl. engines in the early 60's Nova's. If that's what is in it the parts should fit the 6 cyl.

The back of the 250 is just the same as a small block, if it bolts up to the small block it will bolt to the 250.

A turbo 350 will work just fine, the 400 is a little overkill, and the 200 series trans has over drive.

Stay in the '70s when looking for car parts, the 292's were made up the late '80s in pickups and heavy trucks, so look there as well.

Your truck already has the better steering box, if you want power steering, then you will have make something work, nothing else will bolt in.

Be sure to sell your old box if you change it out, its a up grade for the older trucks.

The flex plate will work if you have the starter made for it. The two bolt starters (same as small blocks) us a 168 tooth flex plate, the three bolt starters from the early engines use the 153 tooth flex plate. The early starters bolt to the transmission bell housing.
