| | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 1,067 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 1,067 | I got these really pretty Autometer gauges for my '52 GMC truck. With some slight modifying, I got both to fit in the stock holes in the dash and looks like the factory put them there.
But I have a problem. My gauges are now 2 years old and my speedometer has completely failed. Completely. One year out of warrantee. I'm left with no alternative than to send it in for repair and spend yet more money on the thing.
This Quad gauge + Speedo package was in the neighborhood of $500 bucks, and only has a 1 year warrantee. For goodness sakes, my OEM speedo lasted 60 years without a problem, and Autometer couldn't even last 2.
So buyer beware. Very pretty gauges, but don't expect OEM reliability.

I worked for Simpson Electric back in the 60's. They made quality stuff, like the Simpson 260 meter.
Back then we also made a line of auto test meters for an outfit called Autometer.
Now one would think because it was made by Simpson it was good stuff, but their requirements or specs was well below what Simpson put out. But that's what they wanted, it was cheaper stuff.
The quality did not go in before the name went on.

They are able to do some really trick things. Younger guys who are into all the latest stuff but willing to do what you want. Not cheap but not overpriced either. Give them a look.
