I finally fired up my cadillac 261 today.... Started fairly quick (motor was built by Tom Langdon) and sounded good with the open headers. I have a question though. Being that this is in a 39 1/2 ton I don't see how I have enough clearance to run a fan on the water pump. Anyone else have a 261 in their 38 39 40 1/2 ton. Were you able to use pump mounted fan or did you use electric?

Any help would be great..

Thankss

There is an adapter offered to use a 216 water pump. This helps in AD trucks. It may work for you. Search Ebay for "water pump adapter 235".

The external dimensions on the 235 and the 261 are identical. They just recored the block to handle the bigger bore size. One of our competitors in the "hobby stock" class on the round track circuit in the early 1960's ran a 261 in a 50 Chevy business coupe against our 239 cubic inch flathead Fords in 46 Ford coupes. He claimed it was a 235. He gave us quite a run for our money until we put in Mercury 4" stroke crankshafts and got the cubic inches up to where we were competitive again. When one guy cheats, everybody else has to follow suit!

Jerry I agree... My 39 had 216 in it. Were the 216 shorter than the 235 and 261

The difference in length is not in the block, it is in the water pump shaft.
