For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 116 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 116 | I finally fired up my cadillac 261 today.... Started fairly quick (motor was built by Tom Langdon) and sounded good with the open headers. I have a question though. Being that this is in a 39 1/2 ton I don't see how I have enough clearance to run a fan on the water pump. Anyone else have a 261 in their 38 39 40 1/2 ton. Were you able to use pump mounted fan or did you use electric?
Any help would be great..
Thankss

It may work for you. Search Ebay for "water pump adapter 235". | | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 116 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 116 | Oh I thought the block was longer

They just recored the block to handle the bigger bore size. One of our competitors in the "hobby stock" class on the round track circuit in the early 1960's ran a 261 in a 50 Chevy business coupe against our 239 cubic inch flathead Fords in 46 Ford coupes. He claimed it was a 235. He gave us quite a run for our money until we put in Mercury 4" stroke crankshafts and got the cubic inches up to where we were competitive again.
