Ok, need some help. I finally got the front end tore apart of my 57 3100. Can anyone tell me if I have the original parts, or send me somewhere to find out. Thanks ahead of time.

Engine - No ID next to the distributor, this worries me, but under the distributor on the block reads #6764476

Intake # 3885527
Head # 3836848
Transmission # 3846167GM

The plate on the inside panel gives a Trim code of PPO 431A, and the Paint code of # 769. I believe this to be red with white around the window.
I appreciate your help. This will determine whether to keep it stock or resto mod.

look for date codes, not casting numbers, those covered a range of years

no number on the pad by the dist likely means it was rebuilt, why worry? do you really think that a 53 year old truck has never had any engine work? .... that makes it not worth keeping original?

don't know of any info available on the trim #'s, but the 761 is cardinal red - not a 2 tone, but trim color would be bombay ivory

thanks Bill, I searched and these are the numbers I could find. My lack of experience finding and knowing where to look for on date codes has me scratching my head.
I will look through again today.
Basically I wanted to make sure it was correct engine.

The date code on a 235 will be a letter followed by 2, or 3 numbers and is located on the block just above the starter.

Correct and original are really two different things. It could still have the original motor but if the truck has seen many miles its most likely been rebuilt or replaced.

If its been rebuilt it is still original. If its been replaced it may still be correct, but it isn't original.

Now if you will accept my definitions at face value, and not all do, what do you really have? There is no registry that lists what motor came in what truck and no way beyond coincidence of showing the motor belongs in the truck. There can be many ways to show it didn't start life there.

I tend to evaluate a little differently. If its going to require a lot of work to make it look original I don't care how original it really is, I go whatever direction my pocket book and whims take me. If its likely a clean and easy return to original I'm like to consider that route, knowing its not what I want but could be easy to turn for more project money.

I've never completed a restoration, but is because I rarely buy stuff I don't see as hot rod material.

With the "No ID next to the distributor" the engine may have been replaced... On my 54 3100, the original engine that I thought came from the factory turned out not to have any ID numbers next to the distributor... So I am thinking it was also replaced...
