The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop 46 1/2 ton wheel studs

I have to replace the wheel studs on one of my front drums, (long story and it makes me look stupid). the local NAPA has studs with the right thread and length but the spline is shorter than the old ones. Are these OK to use? Also, How tight should the lug nuts be? Should I use a torque wrench? (I don't want to replace another wheel)

Yes you should torque your lug nuts. Finding the value to use is problematic though. Here are some general recommendations stolen from another website:

Lug Size Ft/Lbs Torque
7/16" 55-65
1/2" 75-85
9/16" 95-115
5/8" 135-145
12mm 72-80
14mm 85-95

IMPORTANT NOTICE: As with all types of wheels retorque lug nuts after the first 25 miles & at 100 mile intervals until lug torque is maintained.
Note: Always refer to Owner's Manual for proper factory specifications that take precedence over the listed recommendations.

Thanks that info will be helpful once I start putting this back together (I wish I asked earlier). How about the NAPA studs? Will these work? Or should I keep looking?

Anyone out there got an answer on these?

I have used the NAPA ones with no problems.
