| | | | Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 78 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 78 | I've got the driveshaft style parking brake on my '59 3/4 ton with the lever attached to the side of the transmission coming up through the floor next to the shift lever. I took the floor cover off to replace the rusty screws and paint it, etc. The parking lever had this rectangular rubber boot going down through the floor, retained by a metal frame. It was brittle and shot of course. My problem is I can't seem to find a replacement. The ones from the AD trucks are too small and shaped wrong. The vendors all sell a foam donut that fits around the handle fine, but doesn't fill the hole so there will be gaps even when I put the retainer back in. Has anybody seen this or seen the correct part sold anywhere?

Plenty of parts for that. Abandon driveshaft style and cover hole with sheet metal.

| | | | | Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 82 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 82 | I'm in the same boat, guumbah. I've looked for a stock-style replacement, too - though I didn't look *super* hard. I also got the foam donut from a vendor; didn't do a lot of good on its own.
If I find one somewhere, I'll drop you a line.
My 56 is far from show quality, so I'm just going to keep my eyes open for something that would work at junkyards and such. The parking brake lever has a pretty long throw, though.

I may take a variation on the above suggestion (I LIKE my parking brake the way it is!!) and expand the little frame with some sheet metal welded in, or fab a new one, and see if I can make the '53 boot work. I'll let you know. That donut thingy sucks!

They had bumper "grommets" that are rubber and are long slotted, but I don't know their size. I Just remember that much. I believe the bumper bracket went thru them and the grommets went against the body? They are on Ebay brand new for $2. Maybe you can bond them with 3M rubber seal, onto another suitable piece of rubber and make something that looks right? Don't know.
