It seems to be worn where the shift lever connects to the rod that runs down the steering column. How can I remove the lever? Can you buy parts for whatever is worn in there? What are the parts called?

The actual shift lever rod has a ball on the end that fits inside the shift lever, maybe that's where the rattle comes from. Lots of parts on an old truck are worn so chasing rattles might be a full time job. | | |

You're right about chasing the rattles. For some reason, this one bothers me - maybe because it's right under my nose.
