They are in really great shape, but I’m wondering about all of those extra holes that appeared in the running boards. These appear to be holes for bolting the running boards and rocker panels together, but there are no matching holes in the rocker panels. An anti-squeak pad made of something similar to tar paper was used where the board mates with both fenders.
On suburbans and panels, a gasket went the length of the running board along the mentioned holes. It was about an inch wide and maybe a sixteenth of an inch thick. It was held in place with tubular rivets. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 64 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 64 | Thanks for the info on the tar paper , I noticed that when I disassembled. The rubber seal I am raising question about is the one between the "sill" plate and the cab body. This is the one at the inside of the door opening at the body. I disassembled this when I was de-rusting, held in place with clutch heads. I may not be using the right term when I use "sill" but the piece fits inside of the "cab" dooorway at the bottom and is a finish trim piece which will be painted body color.
