Hi, newbie here, I've noticed on some '46 pickups, the grill upper and lower sections are all chrome, but on some trucks there appears to be a space with painted sheetmetal between the upper and lower grills, does this specify a different year?
I haven't found anything on line about it, but lots of pictures that seem to show both grill versions regardless of the year stated ?

On all those years (41-46) that area should be painted. Perhaps the fact that there is chrome under that paint confuses some restorers.

I am in no way discounting what kingisomer has stated, but, can anyone verify this? I asked this same question a while back.

I have four trucks with original grilles, three are chrome, and one is fully painted (due to rationing for world war two). I doubt that any of them have ever been re-chromed.

In the 1946 truck specs booklet, it shows the portion between the upper and lower grille as a 'painted' surface. Some folks,like me, liked it all chrome when they renewed the truck.

My answer is based on my own truck, which is still in its original paint, several other 41-46 trucks also with original paint, several factory photos, and dozens of old photos.

You will notice that when "restored" trucks do not have that area between the upper and lower grilles painted, they generally also lack the cab pin stripe, another nice original detail.

Thanks, I think I have to agree with Kingisomer, all my brochures and old pictures show painted, not all chrome.

Painted is correct without a doubt!
